YOU can serve at Overflow

Volunteers are an essential part of our team. By donating time and talent, volunteers make a difference locally and globally. We offer meaningful, easy-to-learn, and impactful volunteer experiences for individuals and groups, for short-term and long-term service that fits within your schedule.

How do I become a volunteer?

Volunteers need to be able to work independently.  Volunteers between ages 10 and 13 must be accompanied by an adult.  Volunteers 14 years and older can volunteer solo.

Start by filling out our individual volunteer application through the button below. Our Volunteer Coordinator will reach out by email with the next steps, including an initial orientation at one of our stores.

What to Expect When Volunteering

After completing an orientation, you will be matched and trained in the area that best utilizes your time, talents, and passions. We have volunteer and staff trainers who will support you through every step.

There is no minimum number of hours required to serve. You will always have full control of your volunteer schedule through our online volunteer system. Some volunteers come for 5 - 10 hours a year and others 2 - 12 hours a week. Its up to you!

Overflow is a busy and active place to serve. We ask that you always wear closed toe shoes and something you don't mind getting dirty. Our volunteer coordinator will talk more with you about our expectations for dress and appearance.

A few examples of the many activities you may be helping with:

  • Sorting donations
  • Testing electronic donations
  • Sorting, cleaning, and stocking merchandise
  • Hanging and organizing clothes
  • General store cleaning
  • Sorting and organizing our library
  • Cleaning and preparing shoes
  • Hanging and organizing linens and fabric

Group Volunteer Opportunities

We welcome groups of volunteers at Overflow. Families, sorority & fraternity groups, student groups, scouting clubs and church groups all find fun and meaningful service opportunities at Overflow.

We generally limit the size of groups to six individuals (including a leader) during a single service experience. If your group is larger than this, we are happy to talk about options for serving over multiple times or at multiple stores.

Silver Cord/Service Learning Application

Overflow is a great place to earn service hours to meet Silver Cord, scholarship, or educational requirements.  We allow volunteers from age 10 and older, but if you are under 14 years old, an adult must come volunteer with you.

Thank you!

Our volunteers are a critical part of Overflow's service in our community and beyond.  We are grateful for your partnership!
