How to: Thrift For a Cozy Fall

It's officially the fall season! Are you craving a cozy, nostalgic autumn this year? Want to know how to achieve the Hallmark or Stars Hollow aesthetic affordably?

Here's what to start picking up from the thrift...

Candles

To create a comfy environment, warm lighting is a MUST. Candles always add the warmest glow to a space, whether they're in the middle of the room on a coffee table, a side table in the corner, or against the wall in a candle sconce (or all the above!) You can almost always find taper candles and holders at the thrift, as well as tealights or medium size candles. There's also something about them that feels vintage, and this helps pull off the nostalgic vibe very well.

 

Lamps

Lamps are another light source that instantly make any space cozier, and are especially essential during the months when the sun sets earlier in the day. You can find all kinds of lamps at Overflow, including floor, table, hanging, fairy, etc.

 

Quality sweaters

Nowadays, finding new sweaters (or most tops for that matter) without polyester is proving to be more and more difficult. Ditch the plastics and find quality material sweaters from the thrift store at affordable prices! Cute Dishware

One of the best activities to do during fall is baking, and how much better does baking become when you do it with cute dishware?? You can find some seriously adorable vintage pans and mixing bowls at the thrift year-round with colorful patterns that just make everything so much sweeter. Again, ditch the plastics and trade them for tried and true materials such as ceramic, glass, porcelain, stoneware, etc.

 

Physical Media

Another favorite fall past-time is curling up on the couch and watching a good rom-com or Halloween classic. There is no shortage of DVDs and VHS tapes living at the thrift store, and watching films this way as opposed to streaming them feels so cozy and nostalgic. I recommend looking for these to watch this season: When Harry Met Sally, Stepmom, Mona Lisa Smile, Little Women, and Dead Poet's Society. There's also so many records and CDs to listen to and set the mood.
